Silchar: A 34-year-old temporary power worker died on Monday after falling from an electricity pole while carrying out repair work at Badarpurghat in Sribhumi district.The deceased was identified as Ajay Kumar Pandit, also known as Sachin, a resident of Hill Colony in Badarpur. He was employed as a temporary lineman under APDCL’s Badarpur sub-divisional office.According to sources, Pandit was repairing an electricity line at Badarpurghat when he fell from the pole. He sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. Locals and fellow workers rushed to the site after the accident.His body was sent to Sribhumi Civil Hospital for an autopsy and will be handed over to the family afterwards, family sources said.Pandit’s death has left APDCL’s Badarpur sub-divisional office and the surrounding area in mourning. He is survived by his parents, wife, daughter, and brother.Officials and employees of the electricity department, including permanent and temporary workers and members of the Pensioners’ Association, expressed grief and condoled with the bereaved family.Local residents have urged the state govt and senior power department officials to provide adequate financial assistance to Pandit’s family.
