Lucknow: A 60-year-old temple caretaker was allegedly murdered with a sharp-edged weapon at a temple located in Palki Haar Majre Chichauli village under the Jagatpur police station area of Rae Bareli on Sunday.Deceased Ram Lakhan lived on the temple premises and was responsible for its upkeep and daily religious activities. Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident, secured the area and sent the body for post-mortem examination.According to additional superintendent of police (ASP) Alok Singh, Ram Lakhan had been living at the temple and serving there for several years. Since he had no immediate family members, he had made the temple premises his home and stayed in a small hut located outside the village.Police officials said the circumstances surrounding the murder were being investigated and the motive had not yet been established. Investigators are examining the possibility of a personal dispute or other factors that could have led to the attack.A forensic team examined the area and collected samples and other possible clues that could help investigators identify the person or persons responsible for the killing.The murder has shocked residents of Chichauli village, where Ram Lakhan was known to locals for his gentle and friendly behaviour.
