Ahmedabad: Two warring families and one dead man. Tension gripped a village in Gandhinagar’s Dehgam taluka after the alleged teasing of a young woman triggered a clash between two families from the same community.A young man allegedly teasing his female friend escalated into a rioting-like situation, police said, adding that the youth and the girl studied together. The families confronted each other and soon came to blows. The situation grew tense after the young man’s father died of trauma seeing his son being assaulted, police inspector R M Gohil said. A case was filed by the young man’s uncle on Wednesday. The sudden death of the man, described as “the head of a family associated with the legal profession,” deepened tensions and gave the case a more serious dimension when his family refused to accept the body and demanded a case of murder be registered. Gohil added, “Postmortem did not reveal injury marks, and hence a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered apart from charges of rioting.”The complaint states that “sticks were used and stones were thrown,” creating “a battlefield-like situation in the village”. Six persons from both sides suffered serious injuries. Complaints have been registered from both sides.
