Chandigarh: While turnout in the Registered Graduates constituency remained around 15%, participation in the other constituencies of the Panjab University Senate election was significantly higher.According to the university, 91.72% of eligible teachers cast their votes Sunday. The principals’ constituency recorded a 100% turnout, with all eligible principals exercising their franchise.The contrast comes as PU conducted its first Senate election after nearly two years. While the Registered Graduates constituency has more than 6.25 lakh voters, the teachers’ and principals’ constituencies have much smaller electorates.The university said polling across all constituencies remained peaceful and orderly, with no untoward incident reported.Prof YP Verma, registrar and returning officer for the Senate election, said the polling process was conducted smoothly and thanked candidates, voters, polling personnel, security staff and other stakeholders for their cooperation.Counting of votes is scheduled for September 23.
