Gurgaon: A 27-year-old systems engineer with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tushar Kumar, was killed late Thursday night after a reversing earthmover engaged in road work rammed into his motorcycle near Moulsari Avenue Rapid Metro station. The machine’s driver fled the spot.Tushar was returning home from work around 11.30pm when his Royal Enfield was hit by the JCB’s rear bucket. The impact threw him and the bike onto the road. He was rushed to Narayana Hospital in DLF Phase 3, where doctors declared him dead. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Sources said GMDA was carrying out routine maintenance work at the site.Tushar had been working in the city for four years and was staying with his uncle in Ramprastha City, Sector 37D, while his parents lived in Mathura. He was their only child. Police said a passerby informed them about the incident around 11.45pm.“He usually left work around the same time every day. He had bought the bike about a year ago and would use it to travel to and from work. We never imagined that one day he would leave for work and not return,” said his father, Harish Kumar.Harish said police informed him of the accident, and he reached the hospital around 3.30am, where he identified his son’s body at the mortuary. “I reached the hospital and saw my son there. He was our only child. We had sent him to Gurgaon to work and build his future,” he said.In his complaint, Harish alleged that the work was being carried out at night in the middle of the road without proper directions or indicators. Police said they are examining this allegation.A police officer said that on receiving information from the hospital, a team reached the spot and found the JCB, bearing registration number HR-36-AN-7050, abandoned. The JCB has been seized.“We have recorded the statements of the individuals who were present at the spot. Further legal action is underway,” the officer said.An FIR has been registered at DLF Phase 3 police station against the JCB driver under sections 281 (rash driving), 106 (death by negligence) and 324(4) (mischief) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
