Panaji: The town and country planning (TCP) department has moved a note to the TCP minister listing the demands made by the Enough is Enough Movement. Chief town planner Vertika Dagur has informed the movement that govt has failed to respond within the 15-day deadline set by the activists.Dagur met with representatives of the movement on Monday, when the delegation went to the TCP office to follow up on their demands.“We had said that we would escalate our agitation if the TCP department did not stop these notifications, which are continuously destroying the regional plan of Goa and environment for real estate companies,” said Goa Foundation’s Claude Alvares.Alvares, along with five other activists from the movement, asked Dagur what had been put down on the note moved to the govt.“She informally said that she cannot agree with everything we said. On the memorandum, she put a note of what part is acceptable and what is not. She said that she is bound by the norms and regulations that are in force today,” said Alvares.The movement has given the TCP department an additional time of seven days to respond.“We will wait for Justice Ferdino Rebello to return to Goa on Aug 12, and after that, we will decide what further action is to be taken. This continuous bombardment on the regional plan through Section 39A must come to a halt. We will escalate this agitation,” said Alvares.Expecting trouble, Goa police had deployed two busloads of police personnel at the TCP office, completely outnumbering the six representatives from the movement.“We asked the chief town planner where the concept of a non-developable area come from, and she said that the board has designated the terminology. It looks like the board is bigger than the law,” said former bureaucrat and movement functionary Elvis Gomes.
