Hisar: Police seized cash amounting to Rs 1.5 crore from a car during a special checkpoint on Jind Road in Hansi on Thursday. Three men travelling in the car were detained for questioning after they allegedly failed to provide satisfactory documents explaining the source of the money.Inspector Sunita, who was in charge of the checkpoint, said a white car approaching from the Jind bypass side was stopped for checking. During a search of the vehicle, police found two bags containing Indian currency notes totalling Rs 1,56,49,500.The occupants were identified as Mohit of Sirsa, Sahib Singh of Fatehabad and Surender of Sirsa.Police questioned the three men about the cash but said they could not give a satisfactory explanation regarding its source or produce the required documents. The police subsequently wrote to Directorate of Income Tax (Investigation), Rohtak, seeking verification and further investigation into the source of the money.The seized cash and the car have been deposited in the malkhana of City Hansi police station, police said. The process of depositing the cash in the district treasury at Hansi is underway. Further investigation and legal proceedings are in progress.
