Ahmedabad: The Amreli cybercrime police recovered Rs 11 lakh for a Sydney-based Indian within weeks of receiving his complaint, drawing appreciation from the victim for the team’s prompt action and coordination.Saurabh Jolly, a native of New Delhi who now lives in Sydney, had transferred Rs 11 lakh in April to a person in Amreli to purchase gold. However, the seller failed to deliver the gold. Unsure whether a complaint filed from overseas would be resolved quickly, Jolly approached the Amreli police through email in June.Amreli superintendent of police Sanjay Kharat said the cybercrime team coordinated with the concerned bank and maintained regular communication with the complainant throughout the investigation.

Police inspector Kamlesh Khatana said the team traced the recipient, who was asked to return the money. The entire Rs 11 lakh was refunded to Jolly in July.In a letter to the Amreli SP, Jolly praised the officers for their professionalism, persistence and transparent communication. He said he never felt disconnected from the investigation despite being thousands of kilometres away and appreciated the team’s patience in addressing his queries.Jolly said the prompt handling of the case reinforced his confidence in the Gujarat police and demonstrated how committed policing can help restore public trust in cyber fraud investigations.
