Jaisalmer: A 58-year-old man was allegedly attacked and had his nose severed by a group of assailants in Barmer district under Sadar police station area Sunday, allegedly over an old dispute linked to his son’s alleged love affair.Police said the victim was on his way to feed pigeons in the morning when he was intercepted around 1.5 km from his house by six to seven men from the same village.The accused allegedly thrashed him before one of them used a sharp-edged weapon to sever his nose. Hearing his cries, nearby villagers rushed to the spot, forcing the assailants to flee.Police identified the victim as Kan Singh (58) and registered an FIR on his complaint.

A search operation is ongoing to trace the accused.A relative of the victim alleged that the attack stemmed from an earlier dispute involving the victim’s son and a girl from the accused’s family. A few months ago, the girl allegedly left her house to meet the victim’s son at a field. After her family was informed, she was taken back home. Though the family reportedly married her off to someone else about one-and-a-half months ago, they allegedly still hold a grudge over the incident.The relative claimed that the girl’s family, along with their associates, attacked the elderly man in retaliation.Sadar station house officer said a police team has been constituted to arrest the accused. Police are investigating all angles, including whether the assault was the fallout of long-standing enmity arising from the alleged relationship.
