NEW DELHI: A two-year-old girl was killed after being flung out of a car window when a speeding SUV allegedly rammed into the vehicle in outer Delhi’s Alipur on Sunday. Two others, including the toddler’s mother, were injured.The injured have been identified as Aarti (28) and Ravinder (47). The car, carrying six occupants, was on its way to Haryana’s Sonipat. Aarti, a resident of Sevli, was travelling back home with her daughter, along with her friend Jyoti and her family.The incident took place around 2pm when the car moved ahead after the traffic signal turned green near the Khampur red light at Bakoli village. The SUV, bearing a Delhi registration number, allegedly rammed the vehicle from behind. Eyewitnesses and the complainant, Ravinder, told police that the SUV was being driven at a high speed.Police said the impact caused the car to spin before hitting the road divider. The child was rushed to Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital in Narela, where doctors declared her dead.DCP (outer north) Hareshwar Swami said the driver of the SUV fled, abandoning the vehicle. Police have seized both the vehicles.Ravi Dhaka, the child’s uncle, recalled the loss, saying, “They had left the windows open because the air conditioner was not working. Our baby had just had her second birthday on April 7 and now she is gone.” He added that the family struggled to find immediate help after the accident. “She was still breathing when she got there, but succumbed to her injuries,” he told TOI.A case has been registered under sections 281 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The case has been transferred to the MACT cell of the Outer North district, and efforts are under way to trace the accused.
