SUV crushes on-duty head constable crossing Yamuna Expressway

Noida: A head constable died after being hit by an SUV while crossing Yamuna Expressway near Zero Point in Greater Noida. While the driver fled the scene, cops have identified the car but are yet to trace the vehicle.Rajpal Singh (57), who had been posted at Knowledge Park police station for the past three years, was on duty at Zero Point around 10 pm on Sept 2 when he was hit while crossing the road, police said. The impact left him critically injured. A Dial 112 patrolling vehicle passing through the area spotted him lying on the speedway soon after and rushed him to a nearby hospital. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment on Thursday, police said.Cops have examined CCTV footage from cameras installed around the accident spot and identified the suspected vehicle as a Brezza. Teams have been formed to trace and arrest the driver.A case has been registered at Knowledge Park police station under BNS sections 281 (rash driving or riding in a public way), 125(B) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106 (causing death by negligence). As Yamuna Expressway is an access-controlled highway, pedestrians are not allowed to walk on, enter, or cross the lanes. Police said they were trying to ascertain the chain of events leading to the accident.Singh, originally from Datiyana village in Muzaffarnagar, is survived by his wife and two sons. One of his sons is also in UP Police and is currently posted in Sambhal.The incident comes barely a week after four persons, including a father and son, were killed after a truck lost control, smashed through the central divider and landed on a Baleno they were travelling in.In another road accident, a 49-year-old woman from Delhi suffered grievous injuries after she was allegedly hit by a bus near Botanical Garden metro station on Thursday morning. The victim, Malti Devi, was passing through the area around 8.30 am when the bus allegedly struck her. She sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the ICU for treatment.After her son Navin Prajapati submitted a complaint, a case has been registered at Sector 39 police station under BNS sections 281 and 125(B).
