Jaipur: Stray cattle have become a daily nuisance for residents in Tilak Nagar, Pashuram Circle, parts of Ramganj and Ghatgate, with animals frequently sitting on roads and posing a risk to motorists. Residents said makeshift roadside feeding spots have also contributed to the problem.Local resident Ritesh Sharma said, “Groups of cattle could be seen on roads every morning and evening, creating a risk of accidents when the animals suddenly come in front of vehicles. The civic body needs to take regular action.”Mansarovar resident Tejpal Singh Tanwar said, “People feeding cattle on the roadside often result in cattle remaining on the roads, obstructing traffic.”Another resident, Jayant Kumar, said, “Merely catching stray cattle would not solve the problem and owners should be held accountable for repeatedly letting their animals roam on roads.”Under the Directorate of Local Bodies’ by-laws, residents are permitted to keep only one cattle animal in a residential area. Residents, however, alleged that the Jaipur Municipal Corporation had taken little action against stray cattle over the past month.JMC veterinary officer Neha Gaur said, “I have received the authority only a month ago. The corporation would now properly address all the complaints that are received.”On allegations that owners repeatedly take cattle back from Hingoniya Gaushala, Gaur said, “We release only cattle whose owners keep a single animal within the city. The rest remain at Hingoniya.”
