Storms, hail lash Raj; teen killed in lightning strike
Uprooted trees disrupt traffic and power in Walled City

Jaipur: Thunderstorms, rain and hail swept across several parts of Rajasthan, Monday, bringing relief from intense heat but causing damage, disruption and a death in Rajsamand district.A 16-year-old boy died after being struck by lightning in Bardaya village under Kumbhalgarh subdivision. The incident occurred in the afternoon when the teenager was standing under a tree amid sudden weather changes. Around 16 goats grazing nearby were also killed in the strike.The weather system impacted districts including Jodhpur, Ajmer, Kota, Bhilwara, Jhalawar, Rajsamand and Chittorgarh, with temperatures dropping by around 7°C on average across the state. In Bhilwara’s Asind, strong winds disrupted a wedding function, blowing away tents and triggering panic among guests. In Jhalawar’s Aklera, a brief spell of rain and hail in the evening affected normal life, while hailstorms were also reported in Jodhpur and Ajmer, raising concerns over crop damage.The spell, driven by active western disturbances, has effectively ended heatwave conditions, though Jaisalmer remained the hottest at 42.3°C. Other cities recorded below-normal temperatures, including Ajmer (36.5°C), Bhilwara (37°C) and Kota (38.3°C).Jaipur also saw a sharp dip, with uprooted trees disrupting traffic and power outages reported in parts of the city. The Meteorological Department has warned of continued thunderstorms, hail and strong winds up to 70 kmph in several regions over the next 24 hours.
