Gorakhpur: A 26-year-old woman attacked her 57-year-old mother-in-law with a knife and slit her throat following an argument over a phone conversation she had with a young man in UP’s Gorakhpur district late Monday. The victim sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Gorakhpur.According to police, Jaihind, a resident of Malmalia Jagdishpur village, works as a labourer outside UP. On Monday night, his wife was reportedly speaking to a young man on her mobile phone when her mother-in-law objected.This led to a heated argument between the two during which the accused allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and attacked her mother-in-law.Family members rushed the profusely bleeding woman to AIIMS Gorakhpur, where her condition is stated to be serious but stable.On receiving information, the AIIMS police station team reached the spot and took the accused into custody. The knife used in the attack was also seized.CO AIIMS Abha Devi said preliminary investigation suggests the dispute stemmed from a disagreement over a mobile phone conversation.
