Chennai: Former chief minister M K Stalin, along with DMK leaders, paid respect to former CM M Karunanidhi on the occasion of his eighth death anniversary on Friday, at his memorial in Chennai.Stalin, along with the leader of the opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, DMK general secretary Duraimurugan, DMK treasurer T R Baalu and other seniors, took a silent march to Karunanidhi’s memorial after garlanding his statue in Omandurar GH.After paying floral tributes at his memorial, Stalin went to Karunanidhi’s Gopalapuram residence, CIT Colony, and DMK headquarters to pay respect to Karunanidhi.Meanwhile, Karunanidhi’s death anniversary was observed at his ancestral village of Thirukkuvalai in Nagapattinam district. DMK cadres organised processions, offered floral tributes to his statues and portraits, and conducted welfare programmes across the Cauvery delta districts.Nagapattinam DMK district secretary N Gowthaman led the commemorative event at Karunanidhi’s ancestral home in Thirukkuvalai, now known as Muthuvelar Library and Anjugam Study Centre. Participants placed floral tributes at his bust and observed a moment of silence.Similarly, former DMK minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi led a procession from Anna Stadium to TVS Tollgate in Trichy. Cadres raised slogans in praise of the former DMK patriarch. He also supervised floral tributes at the statues near TVS Tollgate and later in Kattur and Manapparai.Senior party functionaries similarly organised rallies across the delta districts and arranged welfare activities throughout the day. In Thanjavur, former MLA TKG Neelamegam organised a medical camp.
