Ahmedabad: Speaking at an induction programme for incoming students at Vishwakarma Government Engineering College (VGEC) in Chandkheda, former Space Applications Centre (SAC) director Nilesh M Desai called on young engineers to look beyond conventional career tracks and contribute to India’s expanding space technology sector.Addressing the new batch, Desai noted that public perception of ISRO is often limited to satellite launches, while the broader ecosystem relies heavily on interdisciplinary research, innovation, and private enterprise. Citing commercial ventures like Skyroot Aerospace, he urged students to view engineering education as a problem-solving tool rather than just a pathway to employment.Desai highlighted growing opportunities within the domestic SpaceTech domain, encouraging students to focus on research and entrepreneurship.VGEC Principal V S Purani also spoke at the event, stressing the role of technical education in national development.
