Canacona: A solo trekker, Rohit Kudalkar, 21, was rescued from Badsarem, Gaondongrim, on Wednesday after he slipped on loose soil and slid nearly 100m down a slope.Kudalkar, a Gaondongrim resident staying in Margao, had trekked over 6km when he lost his footing. He stopped himself by grabbing a tree and alerted Canacona police, who informed the Panaji police control room.Emergency services received the call and Kudalkar’s cellphone number. He shared his location, allowing rescuers to track him using the coordinates.A team led by leading fire fighter TA Desai, assisted by firemen OU Mokhardkar and VS Komarpant and driver-operator RM Velip, reached the location and rescued Kudalkar with help from residents. Police and forest guards were also present.Kudalkar, who has undertaken solo treks in Gaondongrim’s mountainous areas previously, was taken to the community health centre, Canacona, for a check-up. He was later discharged after doctors found no major external injuries.
