Guwahati: Assam Police arrested a 21-year-old and seized four pistols and 13 rounds of ammunition in Golaghat district on Tuesday.Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Rakhal Shill, a resident of Half Nagarjan village in Dimapur, Nagaland, during an operation at Naoghat under Chungajan police station. The firearms and ammunition were reportedly recovered from his possession.“Two 7.65 mm pistols, along with their respective magazines and five rounds of 7.65 mm live ammunition; two .22 mm pistols, along with their respective magazines and eight rounds of .22 mm live ammunition; one torch; and one bag containing polythene bags were recovered from him,” a police officer said.The operation was led by John Das, ASP (Crime), Golaghat, with assistance from the CDSP Bokakhat OC, Chungajan OC and other personnel.Police are investigating the source of the firearms and the purpose for which they were allegedly being carried. Further details, including whether Shill has a previous criminal record or links to an organised network, are awaited.
