Lucknow: Police have registered a case of attempt to murder and other offences after a solar company’s state head was allegedly hit and dragged by a car in the Para area, officials said on Saturday. The accused driver, identified as Saurabh Verma, has been taken into custody and the vehicle allegedly involved has been seized.According to Para inspector Suresh Singh, the victim, Manas Gupta of Rakabganj, was standing outside his friend Ram Maurya’s office near Kulhad Katta and speaking on the phone when a car approached from the opposite direction at high speed and struck him. Gupta reportedly got trapped in the front portion of the vehicle.Witnesses alleged that despite people shouting at the driver to stop, the car continued moving and dragged Gupta for about 10 metres. The driver then allegedly moved the vehicle forward and backward in an attempt to run over him again. Local residents intervened, restrained the driver and alerted police, who detained him.Police said there were allegations that Verma was under the influence of alcohol at the time. The sequence of events, including the claim of intoxication and how the collision occurred, is under investigation.
