Mumbai: A protest march led by Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi’s Prakash Ambedkar demanding the ouster of chief election commissioner Gynaesh Kumar over alleged poll fraud brought traffic to a halt for three hours in parts of south Mumbai on Wednesday evening. Around 2,000 protesters participated in it.Police said they had not given permission for the protest and a case would be filed against the organisers at Azad Maidan police station. The march began from the Metro cinema junction and participants walked till the BMC HQ, raising slogans. The entire stretch was closed to traffic from 3pm-6pm. Barricades were erected and police personnel deployed in large numbers. “Traffic was diverted through other routes,” said a senior police officer. Many of those returning from offices experienced inconvenience due to the diversions and bumper-to-bumper traffic. A govt programme at Malabar Hill was postponed.Police sources said the rally was to start from Byculla and end at Azad Maidan. But Byculla police did not give permission for it and the venue was, hence, changed.
