Six killed in two road accidents near Chennai

Chennai: Six people, including a 15-year-old boy, were killed in two separate accidents in Kancheepuram and Chengalpet districts on Friday.In Kancheepuram, a car veered off the carriageway and crashed into a minivan on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway after its driver, Manohar, dozed off near Keelambi. The car’s four other occupants — Kalaiselvi K, 39, Selvaganapathi M, 28, C Jayavel Nagraj, 28, and Kamaraj N, 30 — were employees of a Hosur-based company, and heading to Chennai for a corporate meeting, said police.Kalaiselvi and Selvaganapathi died on the spot, while Manohar died of injuries later, said police. Jayavel Nagraj and Kamaraj were admitted to Kancheepuram Government Hospital. A case was registered.In Chengalpet, a truck rammed a car on the Trichy-Chennai National Highway near Madurantakam, killing a man, his 15-year-old son and relative. Police, who identified them as Gopu, 46, Dinesh and Ilanchezhiyan, 54, said they were travelling from Puducherry to Chennai to receive another relative at the airport. While Gopu and Dinesh died on the spot, Ilanchezhiyan, who was driving the car, died of injuries on the way to the hospital. Police are on the lookout for the truck driver, who had fled the scene after causing the accident.Madurantakam police sent the bodies Chengalpattu Government Hospital for postmortem examination and registered a case. They are examining CCTV footage along the highway to catch the absconding driver.The accident caused heavy traffic congestion on Trichy-Chennai National Highway for an hour.
