Silchar: An SIT has filed a chargesheet against four adults and a 16-year-old juvenile in the alleged rape and murder of a minor schoolgirl in Hailakandi, police said.The chargesheet was submitted on Wednesday in Katlicherra police station under Section 193 of the BNSS. The investigation relied on forensic and medico-legal reports, digital evidence, witness statements, seized articles and other circumstantial evidence.The case has been registered under Sections 65(1), 103(1), 70(2), 332(A) and 3(5) of the BNS, and Section 6 of the Pocso Act.Police said the girl was found in a bloodied condition inside her home on the night of Aug 1 while her family members were attending a social function. A forensic team examined the scene, collected samples and sent the body for autopsy.Five people were arrested during the investigation. The identity of the juvenile has been withheld in accordance with the law.The incident had triggered protests across Hailakandi, with residents demanding arrests and stringent punishment. Protesters also blocked NH-6 before police and the civil administration restored normalcy.On Sept 24, Hailakandi deputy commissioner Jay Vikas visited the family and assured it of administrative support. He said a recommendation would be sent to the state govt for employment assistance.The chargesheet moves the case to the judicial stage.
