Jaipur: Rajasthan will soon launch a special voter-enrolment drive for eligible citizens left out during Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, as well as young and first-time voters, said Naveen Mahajan, Chief Electoral Officer, Rajasthan, said Thursday. The campaign will be conducted as part of the continuous updation of electoral rolls as directed by Election Commission of India (ECI), with District Election Officers and Electoral Registration Officers directed to take necessary action across the state.Mahajan said public-awareness programmes and special camps would be organised through electoral literacy clubs in schools and colleges to help eligible citizens complete the enrolment process. An ECI official said even though there are no specific numbers as to how many ‘eligible voters’ have been left out during the SIR process, the campaign would allow such voters, if there are any and haven’t added their names during the exercise, to register themselves again. ECI has removed the additional declaration attached to Form 6 during SIR in states where the exercise has been completed. The move followed concerns raised by two Election Commissioners over the change to the voter-enrolment process. ECI has maintained that its decisions were unanimous.Eligible citizens in Rajasthan can apply for inclusion in the electoral roll by submitting statutory Form 6 online through ECI’s voter services portal or ECINET, or through their booth level officer (BLO).Mahajan appealed to eligible citizens to use the campaign to ensure their names are included in the electoral roll.
