SIR: 10% of voters on 2025 rolls yet to be mapped

Bengaluru: With less than a week to go before enumeration forms are printed for Karnataka’s electorate of 5.5 crore, Election Commission is yet to map about 10%, or 52.4 lakh voters, on the 2025 electoral rolls.V Anbukumar, chief electoral officer, told TOI the tabletop exercise will continue until publication of draft electoral rolls.“Regardless of mapping status, all voters on the 2025 electoral rolls will receive enumeration forms. They will have to fill these out and submit them when enumerators visit their houses,” he said. The least-mapped districts remain BBMP South (69.9%), BBMP Central (70.3%), BBMP North (71.9%), BBMP Urban (79.9%), and Raichur (88.6%). The highest-mapped regions are Kodagu (98.6%), Ballari (97.8%), Bagalkot (97.4%), Chitradurga (97.2%), and Chamarajanagar (97%).The numbers have been driven by progeny mapping exceeding 100% — relatives of voters in the 2002 electoral rolls who were either too young to vote then or had been left out.Of 34 districts (including Bengaluru Urban and BBMP North, Central, and South), 30 have recorded progeny mapping of more than 100%. If progeny mapping was excluded, the number of voters from the 2002 electoral rolls who were mapped would drop to 72%.Calendar of eventsDateEventJune 20SIR begins June 20–29Staff training & preparationJune 30–July 29Door-to-door voter enumerationAug 5Publication of draft electoral rolls Aug 5–Sept 4Claims & objections periodAug 5–Oct 3Verification of objectionsOct 7Final electoral rolls Total electors (including progeny): 5,55,74,064.
