Ludhiana: Punjabi singer and lyricist Baljit Singh was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his residence in Patti Dhaliwal locality of Sudhar on Thursday. Police said preliminary investigations suggest that he died of a heart attack and ruled out foul play.According to sources, Baljit, who lived alone, had not been seen for four to five days. Concerned after being unable to contact him, some of his relatives went to his house on Thursday morning. They allegedly found him lying dead in bed.Sources said the body had started decomposing, indicating that he may have died several days earlier. On being informed, a team from Sudhar police station reached the spot and initiated investigations.Sudhar SHO Kulwinder Singh said forensic experts, a dog squad and CIA personnel were also called to the scene to collect evidence from the house and nearby area. After a postmortem examination, the body was handed over to the family.The SHO said the deceased was unmarried and had been living alone since the death of his parents. He added that preliminary findings indicated that Baljit died due to a heart attack and that no signs of foul play had emerged during the investigation.Police said Baljit had faced a drugs-related case in the past. However, the SHO said there was no indication that he was dependent on drugs.Further investigations are underway, police said.
