Lucknow: A gang of four men stole silver anklets worth around ₹20 lakh from a private bus in Barabanki district after disabling the vehicle’s CCTV camera. However, another camera inside the bus recorded the entire operation.The theft came to light after Agra-based jeweller Krishna Kumar Khandelwal lodged a complaint at Ramsanehighat police station, alleging that a consignment of silver jewellery being transported to Gorakhpur was stolen during the journey.According to the complaint, two employees of Khandelwal’s firm, Rahul Singh and Mayank Khandelwal, boarded a private bus from Agra on Jul 26 carrying seven boxes of silver anklets meant for delivery in Gorakhpur. The consignment weighed around 9.5 kg and was valued at nearly ₹20 lakh.Police said four men boarded the bus when it stopped near a hotel in the Ramsanehighat area at around 5.40 am on Jul 27. As per the complaint, two of the suspects engaged the employees in conversation and blocked their view, while the other two removed four boxes containing silver anklets from a bag kept beneath the seat.The loss was discovered only after the employees reached Gorakhpur.Based on Khandelwal’s complaint, Ramsanehighat police registered an FIR and launched a probe on Thursday.Circle officer Saurabh Srivastava said police teams were analysing the CCTV footage and collecting other evidence to identify and trace the accused. Investigators are also examining the suspects’ vehicle route and possible links to inter-district jewellery theft gangs operating along major transport corridors.
