Gorakhpur: A 34-year-old man from Siddharth Nagar died after being swept away by a sudden surge in a river in Nepal, where he had gone to visit his maternal relatives on Raksha Bandhan. His body was recovered on Saturday.The deceased, Prabhat Soni, a resident of Itwa Nagar Panchayat, had travelled to Mau Jignihwa village bordering Nepal with his mother. From there, Prabhat, his younger brother Shiva, his mother and other relatives visited Nepal on Raksha Bandhan.According to relatives, the group was sitting on rocks near a river in Butwal when the water level suddenly rose and the current intensified. Prabhat was swept away before anyone could rescue him. Family members also suspected that he may have suffered a head injury after being hit by a rock.After being alerted, authorities launched a search operation. The body was recovered on Saturday afternoon and taken into custody for legal formalities.Prabhat’s father, Awadhesh, along with other relatives, left for Nepal on Saturday. Itwa Nagar panchayat chairperson Vikas Jaiswal also accompanied them.Prabhat is survived by his wife and two daughters, aged four years and one-and-a-half years. Itwa SHO Anil Kumar Dubey also reached the family and coordinated efforts to gather information before confirmation of the body’s recovery.
