Kolkata: The anti-ragging committee of Jadavpur University has decided to issue a show-cause notice to the placement officer from whose office sensitive information of an RTI was leaked to some engineering students, who harassed another third-year engineering student. The third-year engineering student filed an RTI to know about the data related to the placement cell.“The RTI was circulated publicly among a section of students, who harassed and threatened the third-year student. Through questioning of the students, we have come to know that the placement officer reportedly shared the confidential document and the identity of the student was revealed. So the committee decided to issue show-cause notices to the placement officer. The charges against the students will also be framed and necessary actions will be taken,” said a source.The university on April 10 formed an enquiry committee to “investigate emerging issues related to the office of the placement and training and any other issues of that office.” An official said, “Several complaints have been lodged by teachers and students that she was not performing her office properly. Recently, a multinational company revoked its offers to a few students because they did not fulfil its criteria while sitting for interviews. They wrote to the placement officer that despite this, they were allowed to participate in the selection process. This type of incident happened last year too. All these should be overseen by the office of the placement officer. So the panel will probe the issues and allegations.”
