Discoms told to replace faulty transformers within 2 hours in cities in Haryana

Gurgaon: In a bid to reduce power disruptions during peak summer, the state power department has directed discoms to replace faulty transformers within two hours in urban areas and four hours in rural areas. The move aims to ensure quicker restoration of supply in case of faults or breakdowns. Currently, transformer replacement often takes several hours and sometimes even days in rural areas, causing prolonged outages.Discoms have been instructed to maintain adequate transformer banks and keep mobile trolleys ready in every subdivision. They will also submit daily power supply data to the minister’s office. Earlier this month, the minister announced that superintending engineers would be held accountable if outages exceeded two continuous hours in cities and four hours in villages.Power minister Anil Vij also directed officials to ensure the timely pruning of trees around 11 kV/33 kV feeders to prevent disruptions during rains and storms. Instructions were also given to ensure adequate transportation resources for transformers and to avoid any inconvenience to farmers.“The state’s power utilities are fully committed to ensuring uninterrupted and quality power supply to consumers,” said Vij. In a recent review meeting, officials were directed to ensure that there are no unnecessary disruptions in power supply during the summer season.Vij also said that under the Land Recovery Act, notices will be issued within 15 days to consumers whose electricity connections have been permanently disconnected, for the recovery of pending dues. He said that special campaigns are being undertaken to recover the total outstanding amount of Rs 8,200 crore in the state.He added that strict action is being taken to curb electricity theft. Consumers found involved in such cases will be given one final opportunity to clear their dues through fresh notices.Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, Vij said that efforts will be accelerated to achieve the target of providing solar power to 2.2 lakh households by March 2027. Monthly targets will be set for officials to ensure timely implementation.
