Times News NetworkChandigarh: A late night clash led to shots being fired in Sector 38 West on Friday. Three men on a bike drove into a petrol pump after closing time at around 10pm and demanded petrol. Security personnel told them that the fuel station was closed and would reopen in the morning. At this, the men allegedly attacked the guards with sharp-edged weapons. One of the guards suffered injuries and was admitted in Govt Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16.Another guard drew his licensed pistol and fired three rounds in the air to deter the attackers. No one was injured in the firing, but the miscreants fled immediately. The sound of gunshots drew passersby to the spot, and Maloya police were alerted.A police team reached the petrol pump soon after. Officers questioned employees and guards, examined CCTV footage, and verified the sequence of events. Based on the guard’s statement, a case was registered under relevant sections of BNS.Later, police arrested one of the accused, Sachin from Maloya. Efforts are on to trace and apprehend the others. Officials said they would find out if the accused had prior criminal records or motives behind pressuring the guards to reopen the pump.
