Gurgaon: Rain lashed the city on Friday afternoon, triggering waterlogging across several sectors and slowing down traffic. Stretches in Basai, parts of Old Gurgaon, sectors 9 and 10, and several newer sectors like 85, 86, 89, 90, and 92 saw waterlogging. In Udyog Vihar, rainwater accumulated on the roads outside office buildings, and vehicles had to push through the stretches as the rain continued. The internal roads connecting neighbourhoods once again faced the same issue.The waterlogging across both established neighbourhoods and newer sectors highlighted the city’s vulnerability to short spells of intense rain.The downpour came after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow alert for light rain across the city. Its afternoon nowcast, issued at 1.56pm and valid till 4.56pm, indicated light rain over Sohna, Nuh, Faridabad, Rewari, Palwal, Jhajjar and other areas, with isolated pockets of moderate rain.The rain also followed a short-term forecast by weather observer Navdeep Dhaiya, who in a 1.10pm update said thunderstorms developing east of the NCR were moving towards the region and were expected to cover the entire Delhi NCR within three hours. He forecast a spell of moderate to heavy rain towards Gurgaon between 3pm and 5pm, with spells likely to last around 30 to 60 minutes at a location. He estimated 10 to 40mm of rain at most places across the NCR.District rainfall data showed wide variation across Gurgaon during the day. Between 8am and 5pm, Farukhnagar recorded the highest rainfall at 34mm, followed by Kadipur and Harsaru at 15mm each and Manesar at 12mm. Gurgaon tehsil recorded 5mm, while Pataudi received 3mm and Wazirabad 1mm. Badshahpur and Sohna recorded no rainfall during the period.The maximum temperature at the Gurgaon KVK automatic weather station was 33 degrees Celsius, which was 1.4 notches lower than the previous day. The minimum temperature recorded by the same station was 25.7 degrees Celsius. It went up by 0.8 degrees Celsius from the previous day. NorthCap University’s automatic weather station recorded a minimum temperature of 27.6 degrees Celsius, a 1.7-degree rise from the previous day.IMD said Haryana’s average minimum temperature rose by 0.2 degrees Celsius compared with Thursday and remained close to normal. Narnaul recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 24 degrees Celsius.
