Shoppers prep with props for Janmashtami decor

Lucknow: Ahead of Janmashtami, city markets wore a festive look as shoppers thronged Aminabad, Daliganj, Bhootnath and Chowk to shop for decoration material and other preparations.From home décor and temple accessories to Krishna-Radha outfits and silver ornaments, demand for festive items picked up noticeably.At Bhootnath market, Navya Rekhi purchased brass pots decorated with flowers and pearls, along with a miniature flute and peacock feathers to adorn the ‘jhaanki’ (tableau) at her home.At Aminabad, Shraddha Singh, accompanied by her mother-in-law, picked decorative lights, two LED lamps, 3D Radha-Krishna lamps, string lights for the home temple and miniature Radha-Krishna painting frames.“Janmashtami is special and we wanted to give our temple a festive makeover. These decorations add colour and a devotional feel to the celebrations,” Singh said.At Daliganj, Menka Dubey brought her five-year-old son along to shop for his Kanha look.“My son wants to dress up like Kanha ji on Janmashtami, so I bought him the attire comprising a yellow satin dhoti, flute, crown, turban and peacock feather. I have also rented two artificial Kundan necklaces for him,” she said.At Aminabad, Sanjeev Mishra bought a Radha-Krishna wall hanging, earthen lamps bearing the ‘Happy Janmashtami’ message, peacock-feather stickers, a flute and Radhe-Shyam stickers for his temple.Meanwhile, Chowk Sarrafa market witnessed demand for silver cradles and jewellery. Dhairya Merchant got his 50gm silver jhula (swing) packed, while Prerna Jain bought a 20gm silver crown and 10gm silver anklets for Radha.“I have bought silver jewellery to donate in a Krishna temple on the occasion of Janmashtami,” Jain said.
