Shifted from makeshift classrooms, rights panel orders safe transport for Haryana school students now
The Haryana Human Rights Commission has directed the education department to ensure safe transportation.

GURGAON: Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC) has come to the rescue of hapless children of govt primary schools in Nuh.HHRC has directed the education department, in coordination with the transport department, to ensure “safe and convenient” transportation for children – who had been shifted to nearby govt schools from makeshift premises – and submit action-taken reports before the next hearing. The commission observed that the children were of “tender age” and that travelling such distances daily could cause hardship and adversely affect their access to education. The order came after Ferozepur Jhirka block education officer (BEO) conducted a physical inspection of four schools. The department informed the commission that the students were now studying in nearby govt schools having adequate classrooms, safe drinking water, toilets, electricity, sanitation and other essential facilities and that classes were continuing without interruption. The latest HHRC order and the earlier action leading to the the shifting of students were prompted by a TOI report on govt primary schools in Nuh functioning from makeshift premises, including a cowshed and a chaupal.HHRC had taken suo motu cognizance of the report on primary schools operating from makeshift premises despite being shown as functional on govt records. On July 21, the commission – while considering the compliance reports submitted by the district elementary education officer and the BEO, Ferozepur Jhirka – noted that students of govt primary schools in Ghatwasan, Malibass, Kalubass and Kubdabass had been shifted as a stop-gap arrangement to nearby govt schools to ensure that their education was not disrupted.
