BENGALURU: A 26-year-old woman, wife of a police constable, died under suspicious circumstances at her residence in the KR Pura police quarters. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to continuous mental and physical harassment after marriage.The deceased has been identified as Lakshmi Priya. She was married to Rajesh Aradhya on May 11, 2023, in Mysuru. According to the complaint filed by her father, Priya was allegedly harassed by her husband, father-in-law Palaksharadhya, and mother-in-law Bhagyamma soon after the marriage.Priya had delivered a baby girl eight months ago and had stayed at her parental home for nearly six months. On May 22, 2026, around 2.30 pm, Priya allegedly sent the password of her mobile phone through WhatsApp to her younger sister Jayashree, raising suspicion among family members. When the sister saw the messages and immediately tried to contact her, she did not answer the calls. Later, when they contacted her husband Rajesh, he informed them that Priya had killed herself by hanging.Based on the primary investigation, police said the incident came to light when Rajesh returned home in the evening. He alerted police. Rajesh is attached to the HAL police station.A case has been registered under BNS Sections 80(2) (dowry death) and 85 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, against the husband and his family members.
