Kolkata: Abstracts of 215 research papers will be published in both English and Bengali in the two-day West Bengal Science and Technology Congress scheduled to start on Wednesday.Science and Technology minister Kalyan Chakraborti and minister of state for youth affairs and sports Indranil Khan will be among scholars who will present papers in the 33rd Congress. Chakraborti, who has a PhD in botany and teaches in a university, had said that the Congress will marry science and Vedanta. Khan is an oncologist.CM Suvendu Adhikari will inaugurate the Congress to be held at the Convention Centre in New Town.Over 300 abstracts were submitted and 215 were shortlisted for presentation, according to a senior official. “The shortlisted papers are from 12 disciplines like science and technology, earth sciences, including geoinformatics and hydrogeology, chemical sciences, physical sciences, Ayush and medical plants,” said an official.The event will host around 3,000 delegates, including international delegates.Chakraborti said the event will display the world’s first all-girl lunar satellite mission and synthetic aperture radar satellite along with other exhibits. Around 59 registered GI products will be showcased at the event. A state official said, “The event will bring together patented technologies, technology start-ups, emerging engineering solutions and sustainable energy systems.” “Five abstracts have been submitted on traditional Indian knowledge systems on Ayush and medicinal plants and one on the theme of environmental science, including climate change and disaster management,” said an official.
