School bomb-threat email traced to 16-year-old student

New Delhi: A 16-year-old girl was apprehended for allegedly sending a bomb threat email to her school in southwest Delhi. Investigation revealed that she wanted the school to remain closed for the day.According to police, the school received an email on Oct 23 with the subject line, “Bombs Placed in Your Building”. Given the recent spate of bomb threat emails targeting schools in the capital, the cyber police station launched an investigation to identify the sender.Deputy commissioner of police (South) Anant Mittal said a team led by cyber police station SHO Hansraj Swami used technical analysis and digital evidence to trace the source of the email and established the identity of the sender.Police said the girl was a student from the same school and had allegedly sent the hoax email to get the classes suspended for the day.Appropriate legal action was taken against the child in conflict with law (CCL) under the relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.“This case highlights the prompt response, technical expertise and effective digital investigation of the team in tracing the source of a bomb-threat email amid repeated threats targeting schools in Delhi,” DCP Mittal said.During questioning, the girl allegedly told investigators that she had used a VPN to send the email.
