Saturdays made working days to recover time lost in unrest: Khemchand

Imphal: CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh said Saturdays were declared working days to make up for time lost during unrest, as several govt employees took mass casual leave on Monday to protest the decision to cancel Saturday holidays and raise various other grievances. The CM made the statement on Monday at the inaugural event of a three-day workshop on “Reforms in School Education of Manipur: An Approach to Implementation, Challenges and Opportunities of NEP-2020”, organised by Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikash Samiti, Manipur, at the City Convention Centre in Imphal.Khemchand said due to the law and order situation in the state, even the summer vacation for schools had been shortened from three weeks to one week. He said the normal functioning of educational institutions and govt offices were disrupted for nearly a month after the Tronglaobi incident, in which two innocent children were killed in a bomb attack.“As a result, Saturdays were declared as working days for all govt departments to make up for the lost time. Saturdays would be again made as holiday once the pending works are completed,” he said. The Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF) has been urging the state govt to fulfil its seven demands, including enhancing the retirement age from the existing 60 years to 62 years, enhancing the DA/DR at par with that of central govt employees, and revoking the order for cancellation of holidays on Saturdays, amon
