Sanquelim to start four-way waste segregation

Bicholim: The Sanquelim Municipal Council (SMC) has launched a four-way waste segregation system under its ‘Swachh Sankhali, Sundar Sanquelim’ campaign, in line with the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules.The initiative, launched on Independence Day, will see residents segregating waste into four categories using separate bins: blue for dry waste, green for wet waste, black for e-waste and red for sanitary waste, including used sanitary pads.The civic body will conduct awareness and guidance programmes across the municipal area to encourage segregation at source. It said separate collection would make waste handling easier for sanitation workers and help improve cleanliness.Municipal councillor Siddhi Prabhu appealed to residents to cooperate and segregate waste before handing it over to sanitation workers.SMC chairperson Anjana Kamat, councillors Siddhi Prabhu, Rashmi Desai, Deepa Jalmi, Anand Kanekar, Pravin Blaggan, Brahmanand Desai and Yashwant Madkar, market inspector Narayan Parab and others were present.
