Rajkot: A 23-year-old woman died after falling from the ninth floor of a residential building in Rajkot on Sep 24, hours after returning to her parents’ home amid a marital dispute. Police have booked her husband for allegedly abetting her suicide.Manasi Ambaliya, had been married to Milan Ambaliya, a salon owner, for three-and-a-half years. According to a complaint filed by her father, Lalit Solanki, she had been facing continual harassment arising from disputes over her suspicion that her husband was involved with another woman.Solanki alleged that Milan frequently told Manasi, “I don’t want you anymore. Go wherever you want,” and the harassment pushed her into severe distress.A graduate, Manasi worked for a private solar energy company near Sheetal Park and lived with her husband’s family after their wedding.According to the complaint, tensions had escalated after a trip to Sasan Gir on June 28 involving the couple and another couple. During the trip, an argument broke out between their friends, after which Milan tried to pacify the friend’s wife, Nidhi. Manasi questioned him about it, leading to a quarrel. The complaint alleges that Milan slapped her and broke her mobile phone.Manasi later told her family that Milan and Nidhi were in regular contact and had started a salon business together. She repeatedly confronted her husband and asked him to end what she believed was their relationship, the complaint states.On Sep 23, Manasi visited the salon and allegedly had another argument with Milan. She later told her family that Nidhi was also present and allegedly told her that she would get the couple divorced within two days.On the morning of Sep 24, Milan called Lalit Solanki and told him that Manasi had again quarrelled with him. During a conference call, Manasi spoke about her suspicions and said she wanted access to her husband’s phone records as evidence.The complaint alleges that Milan told her during the call that if she came to the salon, he would die by suicide and hold them responsible.A while later, Manasi’s mother-in-law contacted her father and asked him to take her home. Manasi also told her father she wanted to be with her parents, after which he brought her home that evening before leaving for work.Around 7pm, the family got a call from a neighbour telling them that Manasi had fallen from the ninth floor of the building. Neighbours and relatives rushed her to AIIMS, where doctors declared her dead.Police registered a case against Milan Ambaliya for abetment of suicide and are investigating the circumstances leading to her death, including the couple’s disputes and the allegations of infidelity raised in the complaint.
