Jalandhar: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday demanded a CBI probe into the controversy surrounding the alleged video involving chief minister Bhagwant Mann and the alleged procurement of “fake” forensic reports by Punjab Police officers to give him a clean chit.Addressing a press conference, the five-member SAD committee constituted to mobilise religious organisations and the Sant Samaj against the chief minister’s actions said only a CBI investigation could uncover the truth as the matter had assumed an inter-state dimension and involved a money trail.Former Punjab minister and party functionary Maheshinder Singh Grewal alleged that the chief minister was the “prime accused” in the case and claimed that fabrication and forgery had been committed at his instance. He also alleged that the AAP had used the purported forensic report in the public domain and presented it as genuine while seeking a probe by DGP Gaurav Yadav.Senior SAD leader Balwinder Singh Bhunder alleged that after getting into a confrontation with the Akal Takht, the chief minister resorted to lies, including procuring a fake forensic report from Gurgaon. “Now when he has been exposed and it has been proved that the forensic reports were ‘manufactured’ by the team of Punjab Police officials, CM is again trying to mislead the Sikh sangat with new lies,” he said.Former minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema alleged that the chief minister not only violated the law and the Constitution to save himself but also misused state machinery and public funds. He questioned in what capacity commissioner-level Punjab Police officers were sent to procure the purported forensic report.
