Sabarmati station to be ready by Dec-end, set to become multimodal hub
Work on the station is 85% complete, officials said

Ahmedabad: Sabarmati railway station’s Rs 335-crore redevelopment, now 85% complete, is expected to be ready by Dec-end, paving the way for the station to emerge as a major multimodal transport hub in Ahmedabad. The revamped station will connect with the Sabarmati and AEC Metro stations as well as the high-speed rail station, offering passengers seamless interchange between different modes of transport.The redeveloped station will have seven platforms at Sabarmati BG and three at Sabarmati (SBT), which is towards Sabarmati Jail, with three foot-over bridges at each station. Passenger movement will be facilitated through 28 lifts and 28 escalators, with Braille, guide and warning tiles and accessible ticket counters for persons with disabilities, said officials.A two-storey holding area spread across around 86,000 sq ft is being developed with the capacity to accommodate more than 10,000 passengers. It is expected to help manage rush during festivals.

The project is worth Rs 335 crore

At present, 19 trains originate from Sabarmati while 22 trains pass through the station, which handles more than 35,000 passengers daily.

The station is set to become a multimodal hub with connectivity to Metro stations and high-speed rail

The station is also being equipped with smart and green features, including integrated CCTV, SCADA, building management system and real-time passenger information. A 1,300 kW solar power plant has been proposed, while the station is planned as an IGBC gold-rated green building.The East Wing of the main station building is largely complete, with UTS, PRS and ticket counters operational and the waiting hall shifted there.
