RUHS gets ₹139cr for super-speciality upgrade

Jaipur: State govt has sanctioned Rs 139.7 crore for the first phase of upgrading Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) in Jaipur into the Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), a high-end multispeciality medical institute.The finance department’s administrative and financial approval includes Rs 16.6 crore for civil and electrical works at the existing RUHS Hospital. The works include structural retrofitting, cleanroom development, operation theatre modifications and expansion of electrical capacity, a senior govt official said.The remaining Rs 123 crore has been approved for procuring advanced medical equipment for super-speciality departments, including cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, urology, nephrology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, neurosurgery, and plastic surgery.The neurosurgery department will be equipped with neuro-microscopes, high-speed drills, and specialised operative tools for complex brain and spine procedures, including tumour removal, aneurysm surgery, spinal decompression, skull-base surgery and trauma care.The cardiology department will get an advanced cath lab to facilitate angiography, angioplasty, stenting, and other minimally invasive procedures. It will also receive 2D and 3D echocardiography systems, transesophageal echocardiography equipment, and intra-aortic balloon pump support to diagnose and treat valve disease, heart failure, congenital heart defects, and post-heart attack complications.The urology department will be strengthened with 3D laparoscopic systems and renal transplant equipment for treating kidney stones, prostate conditions, urinary disorders and supporting transplant care.The nephrology department will receive dialysis machines, continuous renal replacement therapy systems and a high-capacity reverse osmosis plant to improve care for critically ill patients with kidney failure.The gastroenterology department will be equipped with video endoscopy and transient elastography systems for the diagnosis and treatment of digestive, bile duct, pancreatic and liver diseases.The neurology department will receive advanced equipment for diagnosing and treating epilepsy, nerve and muscle disorders, and unexplained seizures.The plastic surgery department will be equipped to strengthen burn care, trauma treatment, reconstructive procedures and post-operative monitoring.
