RSS march in poll-bound dists curbed

Bengaluru: Karnataka govt placed curbs on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) route march, staged on the occasion of Vijayadashami across the country, in parts of the state on Sunday due to the model code of conduct in force for the ongoing legislative council elections.Polling for four seats concluded on Friday. The code of conduct will remain in place till Oct 27 when results are declared. While Tumakuru saw restrictions, route marches in Bengaluru, a teachers’ constituency in council polls, went off unhindered.Deputy chief minister G Parameshwara said EC rules do not permit rallies or processions due to the prevailing code of conduct. No govt can overrule it, he said, confirming curbs were imposed in Tumakuru district.“We’ve no problems with Pathasanchalana. When I was home minister, I had agreed to let them hold the route march as there were no concerns of law and order. This time, curbs came in only on account of the EC rules,” he added. In the run-up to the march, home minister Priyank Kharge had asked RSS to seek prior permissions and approvals to hold Pathasanchalana.BJP’s R Ashoka said RSS had not faced such curbs even during Indira Gandhi’s tenure as PM. “But this state govt has harassed us till the last day to get permission,” he said.
