Dhubri: Police arrested three people after seizing 19,500 packets of foreign cigarettes in Srirampur at the interstate border in Kokrajhar district.Acting on a tip-off, Simultapu police outpost personnel intercepted a six-wheeler container truck while it was travelling from Assam towards West Bengal, outpost in-charge Sanjib Handique said.“During a search, police recovered 19,500 packets of foreign cigarettes packed in 37 cartons, which were concealed underneath the bamboo loaded in the container. The vehicle was subsequently seized, and its driver and two other occupants were taken into custody,” Handique added.The consignment was estimated to be worth Rs 91 lakh on the black market, he said.Driver Umesh Thakur reportedly told police that the truck had been loaded with bamboo at Khatkhati and was headed for Delhi.The other accused were identified as Ashish alias Atishi and Sipfoko Thori, both from Sajoubar in Manipur’s Senapati district.
