Ahmedabad: A house near Income Tax Circle was burgled even as the occupants were home, police said. The crime occurred on the night of April 30, and a complaint was registered with Vadaj police on Saturday.The complainant, Mayank Shah, 37, who runs a computer sales and service business from his residence, told police that he and his wife, Binjal, were watching television in one of the rooms around 8 pm when they heard a noise from the upper portion of the house. According to the FIR, the couple went upstairs to check and found that an iron safe had been opened and its contents were scattered. On checking the safe, they found several items missing. Police said the stolen items included a collection of old currency notes with the face value of Rs 792, a gold bracelet weighing around 18g valued at about Rs 1.9 lakh, and two wristwatches worth around Rs 33,000. The total value of stolen items was estimated at Rs 2.3 lakh. The preliminary investigation suggests that the accused gained entry by breaking open the rear door’s lock and climbed to the upper floor using the staircase. The theft was carried out in the room that was otherwise used for storage. A case of house break-in and theft was registered against unknown persons at the Vadaj police station. Police are scanning CCTV footage from the area and examining the possible entry and exit routes to identify the accused.
