Ludhiana: Opposition councillors from the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised a hue and cry during a Zone D review meeting on Tuesday, accusing the civic administration of neglecting development in their wards and prioritising instructions from incharges of the party in office instead of elected representatives.The meeting, chaired by mayor Inderjit Kaur and municipal commissioner Ojasvi Alankar, brought together councillors across party lines to review civic infrastructure projects, including road construction, street light repairs, and fogging drives.Push for digital governance amid political frictionDespite the friction, civic authorities distributed tablets to the attending councillors as part of an ongoing effort to transition the civic body into a paperless e-office system.“The tablets are being distributed among councillors, and soon the meetings of the General House and Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC) will go paperless. This will save time, paper, and improve transparency,” mayor Inderjit Kaur said.Dismissing allegations of political bias, Mayor Kaur emphasised that all members are equal stakeholders in the city’s progress. “Our aim has always been overall development without discrimination. Public representatives and the public should join hands to ensure cleanliness and make Ludhiana the number one city,” she added.Municipal commissioner Ojasvi Alankar stated that officials have been directed to execute the discussed civic tasks promptly, adding that follow-up meetings will be held regularly to track progress.
