Kolkata: A Sealdah court on Wednesday sent Somnath De, former chairperson of Panihati Municipality, to CBI custody for two days following allegations of destroying evidence in the RG Kar Medical College junior doctor’s rape-and-murder case.The victim’s family’s lawyer, Amartya De, also alleged that De tried to secure bail in the lower court while concealing the fact that his appeal for a bail was still pending before the high court.Apart from civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the rape and murder case, CBI had arrested former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh and then Tala PS OC Abhijit Mondal. De’s name surfaced following allegations of tampering with evidence and rushing with the girl’s cremation.
