Returning officers review booth boundaries ahead of KMC Polls
The municipal returning officers, one each for the 16 boroughs of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, met at the KMC headquarters

Kolkata: Sixteen returning officers, who will conduct the KMC polls, met at the civic body’s headquarters on Saturday to check the booth boundaries that will help identify the polling stations in each of the 4,500 booths.The municipal returning officers (MROs), one each for the 16 boroughs of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), met at the KMC headquarters. “The ward boundaries have been redrawn during delimitation. The number of wards has risen from 144 to 209. The MROs need to know the exact boundaries of the booth since that is essential to identify which polling station is in which booth,” said a govt official.A ward comprises several booths. “In case any booth has no polling station after the reorganisation, a new premise has to be identified to set up a polling station,” said the official.KMC polls are scheduled to be held in the last week of Nov, for which the notification could be issued before Oct 31.During a visit to KMC headquarters in June, CM Suvendu Adhikari said a new board will be in place at the civic body by Dec 7. KMC does not have an elected board now and is run by an administrator, IAS officer Smita Pandey.
