Hisar: Residents of Hansi’s Sector-5 have threatened to launch an indefinite dharna from July 21 if the Haryana govt fails to assure them of a permanent solution to the drinking water crisis within the next two days. Protesting under the banner of the HUDA Welfare Association, they alleged that 10-12 acres in Sector-3, originally earmarked for a water treatment plant for Sectors 3 and 5, had been allotted for the proposed district secretariat, derailing the long-pending project.Residents alleged they are dependent on saline water from temporary borewells, which is unfit for drinking. They accused the administration of passing the buck, with the public health engineering department referring them to HUDA, while HUDA claims the land for the waterworks has already been taken over for the secretariat. The association warned it would begin an indefinite protest if a concrete roadmap for a permanent water supply is not announced within two days.
