Calangute: The Chogm road, used by most tourists heading to the Bardez coastal belt, is in a dangerous condition with numerous potholes and uneven surfaces after repeated digging and repairs, said Saligao and Calangute panchayat members.Calangute panchayat member Geeta Parab said after repeated digging for underground electricity cables and water pipelines, the road has been repaired, but it has sunk on one side and developed potholes. “During monsoon, water will fill the sunken portions and endanger the lives of riders,” she said.Locals said the entire Chogm road stretch from O’Coqueiro junction to Calangute has sunken portions and potholes every few metres, urging remedial action before more mishaps.Urging the Saligao and Calangute MLAs to take corrective measures before any more fatal accidents occur, hotelier Walter Lobo said the stretch near Saligao church has become a death trap, especially at night, when the entire area is in darkness with no functional street lights.
